How can I Sync my EndNote 2025 Library?

Answer

EndNote allows you to sync your desktop library with your web library. If you add new references, or make changes to existing ones, this will be carried over to both libraries when you sync.

To enable Sync, you must have an EndNote account. To create an account, follow the instructions here.

Open the library that you want to synchronise, and follow the below instructions.

  1. Select 'Library', and then 'Sync'.
  2. Enter your account details.
  3. Click ‘Save'.

To edit your sync details:

  1. Select 'Preferences', then 'Edit'.
  2. Choose 'Sync'.
  3. You can then edit your account details and set your library to sync automatically.

If it is your first time using the sync function, you will be prompted to create a backup library. Click 'Yes' to create the backup when prompted, select your save location, then click 'Save'.

If you try to sync your EndNote Online Library with another desktop library, the libraries will be merged. To merge two libraries:

  1. Open the library that you want to merge with your previously synced library - this will be the library that you sync in the future.
  2. Select 'Groups' and choose 'Sync Status'.
  3. Click 'Sync Now', and select 'Yes' to merge the libraries.
  4. You will be prompted to create a backup, select 'Yes' if you wish to do so.
