How do I add a reference on EndNote 21?

Creating a reference will allow you to save the reference information for a source in your EndNote Library.

To create a new reference in EndNote 21 desktop:

  1. Click 'References’ on the top menu and select 'New Reference'.
  2. Choose the correct reference type from the 'Reference Type' dropdown.
  3. Populate the fields with the relevant information. You do not have to complete all fields – only those that are required for Newman Harvard.
  4. If you want to attach a file, click 'Attach file' from the 'File Attachments' field, select the file, and click 'Open'.
  5. If you want to attach a PDF, select 'PDF' from the top menu, click 'Attach PDF', select the file, and click 'Open'.
  6. Click 'Save' and close the window.
  7. Your reference should now appear in your EndNote Library
