How can I organise my references in EndNote 21?

Answer

The main ways you can organise your references in EndNote 21 are through groups or tags.

Groups allow you to store references together. To create a group:

  1. Select ‘Group’ in the top menu.
  2. Select ‘Create group’.
  3. Name your group (double click to rename).
  4. Drag and drop references from your ‘All References’ tab into your preferred group. You can also right-click the reference, and select ‘Add references to’, then select your group.

Tags allow you to categorise your references. To add tags:

  1. Right click your reference and select ‘Manage tags’.
  2. Choose from your existing tags or create new tags.
  3. Click ‘OK’ to save.
  4. Your tags will appear in the left-hand menu. You can create new tags by clicking the ‘+’ icon. You can drag and drop references into the tags.

Each reference can be assigned multiple different tags and groups.
