What items can only be used in the library?

Answer

When books are reference only it means that they cannot be borrowed or taken out of the Library.

There are two collections of books in the Library which are reference only. Both of these collections are on Level 1 of the Library. You are welcome to use books from these collections when you are in the Library, or scan/photocopy extracts to take away with you.

  • The John Henry Newman Collection contains mostly theological and biographical books about Birmingham Newman University's patron, St. John Henry Newman.
  • The West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy Collection contains books on psychology, counselling and psychotherapy and other related topics. Birmingham Newman University Library does not own the books in this collection, but we look after them for the WMIP.

You will also sometimes find books in the main collection on Level 2 that are marked as "reference only". Again, you are welcome use them here or to scan or photocopy extracts to take away with you, but you won't be able to take them out on your account.
