Do I have to be quiet in the library?
Answer
If you are working in our quiet study zones, you should keep conversations short and very quiet. People should not be able to hear your voice from 2 tables away.
In our silent study zones you are expected to work silently by yourself. You must not talk to others.
You must not make phone calls or video calls in the quiet or silent study zones, and must not play videos, lectures, music, or any other sounds out loud. Your phone should be on silent.
If you are too noisy, you will be asked to leave these spaces, and may be asked to leave the library. For more information on our different zones, please visit our zones page.
The Library is the only space on the Newman University campus that has rules about noise levels. This means that it is the only space that students can come to and expect to work in a peaceful, quiet environment. For this reason, we are very firm about the quiet and silent study zones, and will not tolerate unreasonable levels of noise.
