How do I return a book?

Answer

There are a few ways you can return a book.

The best way is to come into the library and use one of the self-service kiosks. Tap ‘return’ on the kiosk screen, place all the books you want to return on the kiosk table, and wait for them to appear on the screen with a tick next to the title. Once this is done, the books are off your account. The kiosk will tell you to put them either on the trolley nearby, or into the black box.

If you have any problems returning books at a kiosk, you can take them to the service desk on level 1 (the middle floor – where the main entrance is) during staffed hours. We can take the books off your account for you.

If you are on campus but don’t want to come into the library, you can drop your books in the book return box. This is in the St. Chad building atrium just outside the library entrance. This box is emptied several times a day and your books will be taken off your account for you. If you return them outside of staffed hours, they will be removed from your account the next time a member of staff is available to do this.

You can also post books back to the library using recorded delivery. The address is:

Newman Library
Newman University
Genners Lane
Bartley Green
Birmingham
B32 3NT

You should post the books a few days before they are due because they are still your responsibility until they reach us. We recommend using a recorded delivery service, as you will be required to pay replacement charges if the items get lost in transit.
