Can I use ‘ibid’ when referencing?

Answer

As part of the changes to the Newman Harvard referencing style from 1 September 2025, students on some courses may now use the term 'ibid.' for repeated citations.

Students from the following subject areas are requested not to use ‘ibid’:

  • all subject areas within the School of Nursing and Allied Health
  • Criminology
  • Health and Social Care
  • ITE
  • PGCE Primary
  • Theology

If you are unsure whether to use 'ibid', please contact your module leader.
