You might need to reference a conversation you have with an AI language model, or the responses you receive from other AI tools to your prompts. This will depend on the kind of assignment you are completing. You should always refer to the assignment guidance given to you by your tutors, which should explain the level of AI use that is expected or allowed.

However, AI should not be used as an academic source of reliable information. AI tools can produce inaccurate, false, or plagiarised responses, and it’s almost impossible to know where they got their information from. You should only reference AI if your assignment requires you to demonstrate how you have used it, but it is not an academic source. Your assignments should always be supported by appropriate literature, such as books and journal articles.
